For the first time, the Alchemy Festival, hosted by London's Southbank Centre since 2010, is heading north.

Alchemy is a celebration of South Asian culture, taking in music, dance, comedy, fashion, literature, art and design plus delicious food markets, and will be in and around Oldham Coliseum on Sat May 23.

Around? Well there's no better place for a food market than on the streets so, for one day, there'll be a Coliseum Bazaar on Yorkshire Street mixing exotic flavours in the food with exciting crafts and street performers.

Inside, the programme includes 'Variety is the Spice' at 7.30pm, a kind of South Asian Saturday night showcase of different performers, ranging from YouTube sensation Hussnain Lahori, 'Britain’s Got Talent' veterans Signature, universal fusion band AlphaNomega and actor/comedian Mani Liaqat.

At 4pm 'United Colours of FrustrAsian' sees five artists taking their own work as inspiration to take an inward journey of discovery. The party also features performances from Inder Goldfinger (Fun-Da-Mental) and Ezra Khan (Trespass Against Us).

'Knives, Forks and Fingers', developed by comic and broadcaster, Hardeep Singh Kohli, happens over three sessions at noon, 5.30 and 6.30, in which The Women’s Chai Morning Group from Oldham will join other women's groups from around the country to celebrate the bond between women and food.

At 2pm, 'Occasionally We Skype' will be using digital technology to combine Kathak dance, live music, and theatre technique.

Alchemy is at Oldham Coliseum, Sat May 23, from noon.
