One Manchester theatre venue that may not be on your radar but which provides consistently high quality drama is the Capitol Theatre, home to MMU’s Manchester School of Theatre. Up to eight productions are put on each year in this flexible and well equipped theatre, performed by final year drama students. Many of the actors go on to successful stage and screen careers, and the standard is suitably high. The spring season features two very different plays.

Red Noses

'Red Noses' is set in 14th century France during the Great Plague. It's the story of a Catholic monk who embarks on a journey to spread laughter and joy to everyone he meets.  Peter Barnes’ hilarious play is on from Wednesday February 4 to Saturday February 7 2015.

Women of Troy

'Women of Troy' is a Greek tragedy concerning the women survivors of the Trojan War, as they await their fates. Euripides' powerful anti-war play, adapted by Don Taylor, is on from Wednesday February 25 to Saturday February 28 2015.

Capitol Theatre, Oxford Road. Performances start at 6pm on Thursdays, 7.30pm all other days
