Free cycling event Sky Ride Manchester returns this weekend, allowing riders to explore the city on two wheels – complete with traffic-free streets.

The event officially kicks off at 10am at the National Cycling Centre with Great Britain Cycling Team’s Matt Crampton leading out the ride.

The 12km route takes cyclists from the Velodrome past Princes Park and the Etihad Campus and through to Chinatown in Manchester city centre. Participants can ride as much or little of the route as they want with starting points at both the Velodrome and Chinatown - and if you haven’t got your own bike, they’re available to hire in Chinatown.

If you don’t fancy riding, there will also be free entertainment available at the Tricks and Tunes arena at the Etihad Campus including extreme stunt cycling shows. A world record attempt will also take place as part of British Cycling’s Breeze initiative, which aims to get more women on their bikes, so 120 women will aiming to set a new record for the most mechanical energy generated in one hour on static bikes.

Dedicated cyclists and occasional bike riders alike are welcome at the event, so sign-up to take part and get on your bike!

Sky Ride Manchester, Sunday August 2, 10am-4pm.
