In advance of their November gig at The Ritz and to celebrate the release of the 20th Anniversary remastered edition of ‘The Sound Of… McAlmont & Butler’ David McAlmont and Bernard Butler will be performing a live set and signing copies of the album at Manchester's Fopp store tonight at 6pm (Mon 5 October).

It may have seemed an odd pairing when the two got together back in 1994. Butler had just left one of the biggest and most influential bands of the time, 'Suede', and McAlmont had been singing as part of 'Thieves' but, somehow, the clash of heavy guitar and sublime voice brought us such ecstatic hits as 'Falling' and the jubilant dance-floor filler 'Yes' (see video).

The pair created two wonderful albums and a third was being prepared when changes at their label put that on hold, but fans should be pleased to know it could be on its way, albeit a little late.

Find out what David McAlmont loves about Manchester from our interview with him last year.

McAlmont and Butler play The Ritz, Tue 3 November, 7pm, £19.50
