A launch weekend with a funfair theme has been lined-up by HOME to introduce visitors to the new cultural centre when it opens its doors on Thursday May 21.
Highlights of the weekend include a Funfair Fanfare led by patron Danny Boyle to herald HOME’s arrival accompanied by performances from carnival troupe Juba do Leao; inaugural production ‘The Funfair' and the UK premiere of European western ‘Slow West’ starring Michael Fassbender.
The weekend will also feature a family-friendly day taking place on Sunday May 24 and Manchester Monday on the bank holiday to celebrate the venue’s place within the city.
The Sunday will include the First Street Party on the public square outside of HOME, an immersive screening of 80s classic ‘Big’ from performance trio Eggs Collective and Talking Bird’s one-of-a-kind children’s show 'The Whale'.
Rounding off the launch weekend, Manchester Monday will feature screenings of ‘East is East’ and ’24 Hour Party People’ along with a performance of ‘Celluloid History Songs’ by singer-songwriter Josephine against a backdrop of footage from the North West Film Archive.
HOME, which was formed by a merger of the Cornerhouse and the Library Theatre Company, revealed its opening season programme earlier this year.
