Another versatile weekend of clubbing in Manchester this weekend, featuring the 1st Birthday of Groove Kitchen, locally sourced big room techno from Jozef K and Winter Son and dubbier, heavier flavours from Redlight at Sankeys as well as Kahn on extended play duties at Antwerp Mansion. Have a good weekend.

Groove Kitchen 1st Birthday - Q Cavern, Newton Street, Friday, £5
Celebrating their 1st Birthday in Manchester, Groove Kitchen return to Q Cavern with an evening of worldwide grooves, tropical heat, afrobeat, and erm, even some bonus cake given the occasion. Esa, signed to acclaimed genre spanning label Huntleys and Palmers, will guest as the event, returning with his dusty stacks of records and reliable Roland HPD-10 for extra irresistible rhythm. He’ll be flanked on the decks by like minded residents from both Groove Kitchen and brothers in arms, Banana Hill.

Jozef K and Winter Son - 256 Wilmslow Road, Fallowfield, Friday, £3
Winter Son is one half of cult electronica group, Ghosting Season, and Jozef K is one of Sankeys’ residents, a man with a taste indebted as much to stomping acid techno as to the extensive back catalogue of The Cure. Together, they make moody, atmospheric but very danceable tunes for Sasha’s much loved Last Night on Earth label. This Fallowfield set party will feature a full live set from the pair, plus 256 Wilsmlow Road residents on the decks, and what’s more, a snip at just three pounds.

Redlight and Friends - Sankeys, Radium Street, Saturday, £15
One of the UK’s biggest crossover dance success stories over the past few years, Redlight may have nudged the charts, but in a sweaty club environment, former DnB producer Clipze can also certainly hold his own behind the decks, exploring a more 4/4 template taking in house, breaks and the odd spot of grime from his own production back catalogue and beyond. He’s joined by Radio 1 favourite and increasingly versatile DJ, B.Traits, plus the heavy selections of Banton and Mella Dee.

Hit & Run vs Red Eye - Antwerp Mansion, Rusholme, Saturday, £5
Heavy business from two of the North’s biggest sound systems, Hit & Run and Red Eye, joining forces to present UK bass master Kahn, playing an extended vinyl set, along with Kathika and the Brotherhood Soundsystem DJs promising to shake the walls of Antwerp Mansion to their usefully sturdy foundations.
