Last night saw Manchester take home a prestigious prize at the YBF (Young British Foodies) awards held at Tate Britain.

Yakumama, who currently have a presence at the hub of the Manchester Food and Drink Festival in Albert Square, scooped the award for Best Street Food out of a shortlist of eight.

Founders Hannah Lovett and Marcello Sandoval cook up a feast of Latin American inspired cuisine, usually from their outlet as part of Spinningfield's street food court, at The Kitchens, Irwell Square.

Categories at the awards included prizes for best chef, best food writer, best baking and more. Simon Rogan of Manchester's The French at The Midland was a judge in the category of celebrating the best of cooking with vegetables.

Hannah and Marcello wowed the judges with a menu which included Chicharones (fried pork skin, dehydrated parsnip, with guacamole infused with paprika, salt, Scotch Bonnet chillies) / Mango, green papaya and toasted coconut salad / Wild mushroom and quinoa croquettas with lemon mayo / Slow cooked beef shin and tomato empanadas / Choripan – 'like a posh chorizo sandwich from South America' – with chorizo and free range egg.
