International bestselling author Margaret Atwood has been announced for this year’s Manchester Literature Festival.
The Canadian writer, best known for works such as ‘The Handmaid’s Tale’, ‘The Blind Assassin’ and the MaddAddam trilogy, will be discussing her forthcoming novel ‘The Heart Goes Last’ as part of the 2015 festival.
Set in the near future where the lawful are locked up and the lawless free, the book centres around young lovers Charmaine and Stan who sign up for a social experiment which descends into a nightmare of conformity, mistrust, guilt and sexual desire.
The Booker prize-winning author will be in conversation with broadcaster and critic Erica Wagner at the Royal Exchange on Sunday September 27.
Tickets for MLF members are available now and go on sale to the generic public on Monday April 20.
Royal Exchange, St Ann's Square.
