Manchester is a big city, as well you know. So it will come as no surprise that there are hundreds of things to do for New Year. Every bar, club, restaurant and street corner will be jam packed with revellers saying a fond farewell to the old and ringing in the new. In amongst the throng of activity, here are a few highlights which may help you to make the all important decision about where to be at midnight on the 31st...

Radisson Blu Edwardian, NYE Dinner, £85
Indulge your final evening of the year with a sumptuous four course meal with a glass of champagne in one of the more luxurious hotel settings in the city centre.

Could 23
Start the new year in style overlooking the city, with a choice of two packages at £75 and £125, for which you get a table until 2am (at the window for the more expensive ticket), drinks and canapés.

Manchester Camerata: New Year’s Eve Musicals Gala, Bridgewater Hall, £34-£54
A gentle end to 2014 with orchestrated versions of songs from your favourite musicals. And it's all over by 10.30pm so you can still go out on the lash... And if you want more, you can come back on New Year's Day for the Camarata's Viennese Gala!

Mr Scruff and Floating Points, Band on the Wall, £25
With these two on the decks, this could be a New Year which gets off to a great start.

Music Is Love, Sankeys, £30
Move D, Kerri Chandler and residents will be offering up some classic and contemporary disco and house to get your moves moving.

Warehouse Project, Albert Hall, £40
Nine, count them, DJs, headlined by Radio 1’s Annie Mac, for this WP night in Manchester's most impressive looking venue.

Hed Kandi, Static, £20
Out-doing the Warehouse Project on DJ's is Hed Kandi's 11, promising exactly what you might expect - commercial house and disco.

Juicy, South (not Joshua Brooks), £10
Moving from its usual venue to take up home in South for the night, this Manchester staple will be bringing you everything from James Brown to Justin Timberlake.

Rock Out 2014 - Roll In 2015, Fifth Avenue, £12
Normally the night for Propaganda, and you can expect just that from their NYE party.

BassFace featuring Cherry, Sound Control, £10
DJ Maden in The Basement, Cherry at The Bar, DJ Pottymouth & MC Skeez serving up bouncing beats, dubstep, grime & D&B in the Attic... it's all going on and kicking off!

New Year's Eve Party, Gorilla, Free
The Whitworth Street railway arch bar will be serving up delicious food and funky tunes all night long (which might well be one of those tunes) and it's free. There's a separate event in the club until 5am for £20.

New Year's Rockin' Eve, All Star Lanes, Free
The stylish bowling ally and bar will be playing rock n' roll, soul and all sorts and there are prizes for those dressing to the theme of 'hip cats and dolls'. Don't turn up as a barbie or Top Cat though, were don't think that's what they mean...

New Year's Eve Stand Up, The Comedy Store, £30 or £40
See the new year in with a laugh. You can book the 6pm night for £30 and be home by 10pm, or spend an extra tenner and start at 9pm, get two hours of mirth followed by a club night in the bar!

Fireworks, Piccadilly Gardens
Head on up to the gardens and get some wonder as the annual display of exploding light brings the sky to life over the city. Is there anything more lovely than seeing out the old year with a firework display?

Whatever you do, whether it's time out or time in, have a wonderful New Year.
