The finest clubbing in Manchester this weekend

Manchester’s kicking it up a gear or two this weekend, welcoming the usual array of underground talent from all stops on the dance spectrum, be it techno master Scuba, underground radio hero Charlie Bones, teeth grinding techno from Gunnar Haslam down at Bohemian Grove or even drop after drop after drop from DnB legend, Andy C. This week’s dancefloor hot tip:

MVSON - Sankeys, Radium Street, Friday, 11PM, £10-15
Regular Manchester party MVSON turn two this weekend with a techno heavy line up that’s rather difficult to sniff at, headlined by two of Berlin’s finest and one of Ireland’s foremost electronic talents. The former bill is comprised of Berghain/Panorama Bar regulars Scuba, who's about to release his no doubt divisive new album, and the technically and creatively gifted Ryan Elliot. They’re backed up in the basement with Ryan Jefford going B2B with Rikki Humphrey, and further support from the MVSON collective themselves. Upstairs, sci-fi obsessed mad man and synth master Space Dimension Controller sets the mood all night long in Spektrum.

So Flute - The Roadhouse, Newton Street, Friday, 11PM, £6
Here at Time Out Clubbing Picks, we wouldn't usually implore you to see out a breakfast radio host in order to occupy your Friday night, but then very few if any breakfast radio hosts have the incredible taste of Mr. Charlie Bones, best known for his weekday show on London’s NTS, ‘Do You’, also the name of his much respected record label. Focusing more so on vinyl rather than chatter with the lights down, expect a razor sharp selection of funk, boogie, soul and freshly dug edits, backed up by So Flute’s more than reliable crack squad of residents.

Andy C All Night - Albert Hall, Peter Street, Saturday, £15
Andy C shouldn’t need an introduction at this stage, but just in case he does, here, have one on us. Co-founder of RAM Records, Mr. C is perhaps the single most pioneering force in the development of Drum and Bass as a genre in the past twenty years, and perhaps the only DJ able to command an audience with such a rapid style over the course of a whole evening. Perhaps it’s easy enough once you’ve been there for the start. Utilising three decks (to achieve his infamous ‘double drop’ technique), alongside natural technical smarts and a natural talent for turning even the biggest arena upside down, expect a very lively night at the Albert Hall, as part of the Transmission series.

Bohemian Grove - Bangkok Bar, Princess Street, Saturday, £10
Always a few steps ahead of the pack and never afraid to take things to the edge in terms of volume or style, the notoriously riotous Bohemian Grove returns to it’s new home of Bangkok Bar with a very special guest in the form of gritty New Yorker Gunnar Haslam, whose occasionally bone crunching techno also comes with a unique lightness of touch. Trust us, you’ll understand when you hear him. In support are BoGro’s residents, acclaimed and highly sought after in their own right, consisting of Cottam, Means and 3rd, Damo B and Vietnam.
