Manchester has a proud history when it comes to technology, from Alan Turing and the first stored program computer to the multitude of technology-based businesses found in the city today. It seems as though this heritage is finally being recognised, as during the recent Budget the government promised to pump £4 million worth of funding into the city, to help build a technology start up hub in the Northern Quarter. To celebrate this announcement, here are some of the latest technological advancements that you never knew you needed.

"Xbox, order me a pizza"

Everyone loves a good pizza, but what if you’re feeling really lazy and can’t be bothered to move from the comfort of your sofa to head round to your local takeaway or phone a delivery? Well fear not, because it is now possible to order a delicious pizza without moving a muscle! The Domino’s app for the Xbox One uses voice activation to allow you to order your favourite pizza using nothing but your voice. A large pepperoni please!

Transform your world with holograms

Wearable tech is all the rage right now, from Google Glass to the Apple Watch. Microsoft have finally thrown their hat into the ring, with their recent announcement of the Microsoft HoloLens. The HoloLens is a pair of goggles that allows you to display holograms over the world around you, turning your life into some futuristic, Minority Report style sci-fi movie.

Wear a belt that doesn’t judge you

We’ve all been there. You’ve just finished a big fry up or an impressive Sunday dinner and all of a sudden your trousers start to feel a little snug. The feeling of satisfaction after enjoying a big meal is ruined by the creeping realisation that your stomach is starting to get bigger. Well you won’t have to worry about this much longer if the makers of Belty have anything to do with it! Belty is a smart belt that automatically adjusts itself to your increasing or decreasing waistline. So next time you go out for dinner, Belty won’t judge you for having that extra slice of cake for dessert!
