Three ways to celebrate Oktoberfest in Manchester

Oktoberfest has been taking place in Germany for more than 200 years, originally established to celebrate the marriage of Crown Prince Ludwig I and Therese of Saxe-Hildburghausen. But you don’t have to go all the way to Munich to celebrate the festival dedicated to all things Bavarian. Here’s three ways to enjoy Oktoberfest in Manchester.

Hotspot Ess Paradies
Try authentic German food at Manchester’s only restaurant dedicated to the country’s cuisine. From schnitzels to Bratwurst to Käsespätzl (or cheese noodles to the non-Deutsch speakers), Hotspot Ess Paradies serves up a range of traditional German dishes for both meat eaters and vegetarians. Finish off with either an apfelstrudel or their sensational Fantakuchen.

Beermoth

The German beer selection at Beermoth, Manchester

The Northern Quarter’s beer mecca offers a wide selection of German bottled beers - including Märzen/Oktoberfestbier options. The range is ever changing, but expect to see the likes of Augustiner, Paulaner and Schneider Weisse on the shelves. If you can’t choose, be sure to ask the staff for recommendations.

Manchester Oktoberfest
Albert Square will be transformed into something akin to Munich for a three day Oktoberfest event. The event travels the UK and will be in Manchester at the end of October. A beer brewed in Bavaria, Fest Beer, along with German meals and snacks will be served. Tickets and seats can be reserved in advance, and the Wednesday session is free entry.
