One of Manchester's, indeed, the country's finest poets, Lemn Sissay, is nominated to be the next Chancellor of Manchester University. And like any nominated candidate for anything, he's on the campaign trail.

The election of the new Chancellor follows the end of the seven-year tenure of the current Chancellor, Tom Bloxham MBE, the founder of Manchester-based property development company Urban Splash and Chair of MIF.

The current University President and Vice-Chancellor, Professor Dame Nancy Rothwell, said:
'The Chancellor of the University, while a ceremonial office, brings with it significant ambassadorial responsibilities in helping to promote the University’s achievements regionally, nationally and internationally.'

The other candidates are Sir Mark Elder, the Hallé Music Director, and Lord Peter Mandelson.

There are lots of reasons why Time Out Manchester could tell you that Mr Sissay would make a great Chancellor but, as the man is a fine wordsmith, we really should just let him do it...
