You may well remember the horror of this real life story, so touched and moved seemed the whole country by the shockingly violent death of a young girl in a park, beaten to death for dressing like a 'goth'.
Sophie died in 2007 and since then, a foundation set up in her name by her mother has done much to counter the mentality which sees difference and sub culture as a threat.
Poet Simon Armitage created the long prose poem about the event, 'Black Roses', first adapted into a BBC radio programme and now a film, and this premiere at Dancehouse includes a screening plus an audience with Sylvia Lancaster (Sophie's Mum), Simon Armitage, and actors Julie Hesmondhalgh, the brilliant Rachel Austin (playing Sophie) & Susan Roberts.
