Sam's Chop House

Nearly 150 years and still going strong, the success of this place isn't just down to its impressively grand old building (though it does play on its history well). The guest beers on draught attract the ale hounds while the restaurant's passionately British menu is more than worth sampling for the 8oz bacon chops, the corned beef hash cakes, the Lancashire cheese and onion pies and the other nods to the region's rich culinary past. You'll probably get to meet LS Lowry too, still propping up the bar.
