Award-winning Indian restaurant offering an eclectic selection of dishes, cookery classes and an outdoor shisha lounge

The winner of the 2012 Manchester Tourism Award for Restaurant of the Year is an impressive 300 seat space just off the Oxford Road corridor.

Modern and sleek and a far cry from the curry mile, Zouk offers Indian cuisine of the highest standard in a large, two-storey restaurant where you can also dine alfresco in the outdoor shisha lounge.

It's not only the dark wood and glass interior that give Zouk a modern feel – so does the menu. An extensive vegetarian and seafood range ensures that everyone has plenty to choose from, and regularly changing specials promise something new on return visits. Traditional favourites sit nicely alongside modern fare; you can have burgers, steaks and if you're brave enough, there’s pan-fried sheep's brain. You can even treat your party to a whole stuffed lamb.

If your passion for Indian and Pakistani food extends beyond just eating it, Zouk also offers a cookery school. For half a day, you can learn how to make authentic grilled starters, curries and naan breads in the capable hands of the Zouk chefs.

This Manchester restaurant is the second in the Zouk empire, having been preceded by the well established Zouk in Bradford. If this is anything to go by, look out for more in the future.

I was invited to a party at Zouk for their 7th birthday, and was looking forward to it with my plus one, but oh the disappointment!   It may be my age, but why do you need club level thumping tunes with strobe lighting when the sun is still out and conversation could have taken place if shouting wasn't involved!!

The cocktails were bland and run of the mill as was the atmosphere which wasn't helped by a lot of the guests looking down there noses at people - (Alderley Edge and Cheshire must have been a ghost town that night) - and making you feel generally uncomfortable for not wearing the latest Felabuchi top or having the correct Poonalouisa hand bag (or whatever the current must have trends are at the moment)

All in all the party was a disappointment and we couldn't wait to get away for a civilised meal and conversation in a more adult and welcoming environment.

I was invited to a party at Zouk recently so this review is slightly different than normal. Zouk is conveniently situated just off Oxford Road. The red carpet was out and a fire eater was performing outside to welcome us. We were all given a flower garland on entering to get us into the party mood, which was a nice touch. The place was packed when we arrived. The lovely evening sunshine meant that the outdoor terrace was full with people smoking shisha. Inside, the decor is impressive - very sleek and modern. Indian and Pakistani delicacies were served canape style and everything was absolutely delicious! The chicken was particularly tasty. I will definitely be going back to try Zouk on a normal night to try out the menu. Looking online most of the mains come in at under a tenner so good value. All the staff I encountered were very friendly and engaging despite being run off their feet! During the evening we were also treated to some Bollywood dancing too! Recommended.
