Oh dear. Promising so much with it's American diner interior - (the funky cloud lights over the bar are a joy) - and promise of good steaks, CAU was a little of a let down! Six of us went for lunch and some ordered off the "speedy lunch" menu and some a la carte, but we all only had a starter and main course. Service was slow to say the least, with the starters being bought out about 20 minutes after ordering followed approximately 30 minutes later by the main course, and with only about 12 other people in the place - busy was not a valid excuse.
On the food, if you ask how you'd like your steak done then please note this! The well done rump steak came over oozing blood and the thin flash grilled steaks in the steak sandwich - also wanted well done - had turned the bread red with blood, it was sent back to be re-done, but what was bought back wasn't much better! I enjoyed my steak and bacon burger, but it wasn't anything special.
To be fair they did comp the rare rump steak, but all in all the steaks and burgers eaten were nothing to write home about when you consider what Manchester can offer these days for the price.
