Altrincham Market

Revamped in 2014, this historic market now has a refectory hub, Market House, plus stalls in the upper market hall and lower open market. Food shoppers head for Peake’s Cheese, Taylor’s Fish (open daily) and the veg stalls. On the second Sunday of the month farmers and food producers take over.

Well worth the journey out of Central Manchester, Altrincham Market is the perfect spot to spend a lazy weekend. The recently restored Market House is home to a whole host of different food vendors, offering some of the tastiest, freshest food around, from stone-baked pizza to artisan pies. Diners can wash down their meal with some amazing wines, craft beers and cask ales. Outside the Market House is a myriad of stalls selling everything from freshly baked bread to handmade jewellery. And good news for canine lovers, the market is definitely a dog friendly spot.

I call Altrincham Market the Covent Garden of the North. If you haven't paid this place a visit you are missing out big time! The old Market House was restored a few years ago and now contains a plethora of various fantastic eateries. It is basically a foodie paradise. The Market House is packed out every weekend and you may have to wait to get a seat - especially if you are in a big group - but it is worth the wait. The genius of it is you can all go and choose your own food and drink and sit together to it eat it. The choice is amazing. Honest Crust pizzas are just the best and the Wolfhouse Kitchen's bacon butties are second to none. After your lunch you can go outside to the covered area to browse the many artisan stalls selling all manner of handmade items, plus there is usually live music to keep you entertained. You can dine outside in the covered are where there are more street food style options - tapas, seafood, vegan, crepes - literally something for everyone and everything is freshly prepared and delicious. Another big plus for me is that it is VERY dog friendly - even inside the Market House. It is the perfect destination for a lazy Sunday whatever the weather and there is always a warm welcome! The Market House is open every day except Monday with different stalls and themes on Tuesdays, Thursdays, Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays.
