Time Out says

Continuing the Octagon's commemoration of the anniversary of the outbreak of WW1, Early One Morning tells the true story a of 26-year-old soldier

First performed in 1998, and revived as part of the First World War commemorations, Bolton playwright Les Smith's ‘Early One Morning’ tells the moving and true tale of local soldier James Smith, a decorated hero who stands trial for desertion.

Shockingly, over 300 British soldiers were shot at dawn in that war, victims themselves of less enlightened times, and this tragic play is well worth your time.
