A stylish retreat offering peace and quiet in the middle of the city

Casa Decu is tucked away down a quiet street in Mexico City’s leafy Condesa neighbourhood, behind a door that’d be easy to miss completely were it not for its neat Art Deco lettering that marks the place out as a discreet yet stylish hotel. It’s a theme that continues inside, where the vibe is simple and smart, black and white, with a few bits or flashy design that stand out: jazzy floor tiles in the lobby, a huge geometric wall in the atrium, the odd piece of Scandi furniture.

The rooms aren’t actually rooms at all: they’re full-blown suites with kitchens and living areas, ideal for families or those looking to hang out in the city a little longer. And they’re far enough from the road to make them pin-drop quiet. There’s also a lovely roof terrace covered with dangling bulbs and creeping vines – a lovely spot to take a break from the city.

Neighborhood:
Condesa is one of Mexico City’s hottest ‘hoods – a relaxed and walkable area that’s littered with boutique shops and cute cafes. It’s also an ideal introduction to the city, with a glut of Art Deco architecture and plenty of greenery, making it a calmer place to get your bearings than the busier historic centre.

Nearby:
1. Baltra: For cozying up with a delicious cocktail.
2. Nevería Roxy: For enjoying an ice cream in a retro setting.
3. Lalo!: For top-notch grub at one of Mexico City’s hippest brunch spots.

Time Out tip:
Make sure you have the glass of mescal Casa Decu offers guests on arrival – and don’t skip the worm salt.
