13th Documentary Screening says
Come join us for a FREE viewing of this most imperative film. Showing the history of African Americans from slavery, through jim crow, and into "the new jim crow" of the prison industrial complex. Interviews with Michelle Alexander, Angela Davis, Cory Booker, Henry Louis Gates, and even Newt Gingrich help illuminate america's unconscionable racial history and where/who we are today. The director, Ava DuVernay, deftly cuts between archival footage and contemporary imagery creating a visually stunning, and at times hard to watch, film. It has been nominated for an Academy Award in the Documentary catagory this year. If possible, try to bring a friend, relative, or aquaintance who would not normally see this type of film. Let's get the much needed conversation started on how we can start fixing this mess.
