Momentum: New Dance Works Festival 2017 says
Momentum is among the most popular platforms of emerging choreographic talent in the Twin Cities. Featuring two new works each evening, the series highlights an exciting next generation of dance creators.

2017's commissioned artists/collaboratives are:

Week 1: July 13 – 15, 2017
(ASL Interpretation provided by Rosalinda Estrada on Friday, July 14)

Fire Drill and Tom Comitta (Los Angeles)
Bill: The Musikill
Performance duo Fire Drill teams up with LA-based sound poet Tom Comitta to deliver Bill: The Musikill, an experimental musical set in a dystopian, post-climate-disaster tech commune. Pushed to the blistering pace of hyper-entertainment from start to finish, this exhausting spectacle measures the human cost of engineered happiness.

Taneber/BLAQ Wall Street
The women who are BLAQ embody celebration in Taneber/BLAQ Wall Street. This is where sisterhood is rooted, home is reflected, and meaning and truths are created. Surrounded by music and a marketplace stocked with food and libations, the act of celebration is welcomed to all.

Week 2: July 20 - 22, 2017

Like an exquisite corpse drawing, divided into three parts that combine to complete one fantastical form, the three artists in //CATHEDRAL\\ assemble themselves into strange images to create a dreamscape of dance. De’Light is a nonstop slithering slideshow that blends into a single storyline sideshow, ever dabbling in fairy tales and mysticism.
*Please note: De'Light contains brief nudity.

Super powers, super heroes, super natural? STRONGmovement finds strength in humanity. Shielding themselves while navigating inside their new fate, the characters in “6” reveal the next step in human evolution, where past/present/future can be manipulated, and each individual’s inner resilience bonds them to face the unknown as an interconnected force.

Performances take place at the Southern Theater, 1420 S. Washington Ave. in Minneapolis

The series is presented by The Cowles Center for Dance & the Performing Arts, in partnership with the Walker Art Center and the Southern Theater.

Momentum is made possible by generous support from the Jerome Foundation.
