Academy Award nominated film 5 Broken Cameras is a Palestinian farmer's chronicle of his community's nonviolent resistance to the actions of the Israeli army. When film director, Emad Burnat, flew into LA for the Academy Awards he was detained and harassed by US immigration officials. He said, "All the Palestinians get the same treatment in our country, in our home and in different countries. So it's not normal for a human to be treated like this for all our lives, or for our kids. So I am seeking for peace and for freedom for my kids. And I want them to be treated like humans, not because we are Palestinians that we should get bad treatment or different treatment."
Mark your calendar: The director's brother, Iyad Burnat, who appears in the film, will speak in the Twin Cities in November 17-19. Details TBA.
Hosted by the Anti-War Committee with Students for a Democratic Society and Students for Justice in Palestine.
