This month, we have a special treat - Michelle Cruz Gonzales makes Moon Palace Books a stop on her midwestern tour for The Spitboy Rule, her collection of essays about her time as the drummer for the legendary hardcore band Spitboy and her experiences as a Xicana in the 1990s punk scene. Also reading will be local author Venessa Fuentes, recently published in A Good Time for the Truth: Race in Minnesota.

In the 1990’s, Michelle Cruz Gonzales played drums in and wrote lyrics for the legendary all female hardcore punk band Spitboy (not a riot grrrl band). Spitboy toured extensively in the US and overseas and released several records.

A Xicana writer, MCG writes memoir and fiction and has contributed to Hip Mama Magazine, published in anthologies. She teaches community college English, and lives with her husband, son, and their three Mexican dogs in Oakland CA

Venessa Fuentes is from the Twin Cities. She is also from its arts, queer and POC communities. Her writing has been anthologized, read at poetry picnics, shared at the dinner table, and turned into public art. Along with her son and wife, Venessa claims the south side of Minneapolis as home.
