This Bollywood remake of the Tom Cruise/Cameron Diaz romcom action caper ‘Knight and Day’ is just as derivative and dumb as the original. A-lister Hrithik Roshan plays Rajveer, a jewel thief who steals the Koh-i-Noor diamond from the Tower of London in order to sell it to Omar Zafar (Danny Denzongpa), ‘India’s most wanted criminal’. He returns to a wintry Shimla where he meets Harleen (Katrina Kaif), a bank receptionist. But this attractive couple are soon under attack by Zafar’s henchmen, and Harleen has no choice but to tag along on a series of crash-bang adventures featuring exploding vehicles, bullets galore and plenty of bickering banter.
Roshan does most of his own stunts, flaunting his washboard abs and blonde-streaked locks while all Kaif has to do is look gorgeous and freaked-out at the same time as Roshan drags her through numerous dangerous escapades in exotic global locations. As the cars and bodies pile up, the inevitable result can only be a splitting headache, especially as it’s impossible to care about the couple’s troubles: there’s zero chemistry in this pairing, and their comic timing is unreal. Crammed with product placement for a certain pizza chain, this lengthy, silly, overblown film is moderately stylish but falls flat as a high-octane thrill-ride.
