Beware the Gonzo

Time Out says

Aspiring investigative reporter Eddie "Gonzo" Gilman (Miller) is censored by the prick editor of his prep-school newspaper. So, naturally, he founds an underground rag that champions the dispossessed, offends the administration and makes him a star. Though writer-director Bryan Goluboff relies on several outdated references---his Internet-averse, disconcertingly helmet-haired hero worships Hunter S. Thompson and, egads, newsprint---the filmmaker creates a recognizably adolescent milieu that's also a workable metaphor for the anxieties of the 21st-century press corps. When Gonzo divulges his classmates' darkest secrets, we're meant to disapprove of his transformation from swaggering New Journalist to WikiLeaks extremist. In the real world, we've still haven't decided which ethical version we prefer.
