Time Out says

Based on a series of books by Neale Donald Walsch, Conversations with God is a fictional recounting of the author’s journey from homeless and unemployed to self-styled spiritual messenger. Walsch (Czerny, in a one-note performance) suffers through a neck injury, humiliating job interviews and even more humiliating dialogue, as we wait for something—humor, irony, sex, anything—to liven up his story. When God finally shows up, he speaks in the same tedious motivational-speaker cadences as Walsch, and spouts the reactionary philosophy of the self-help industry—namely, that people’s problems are essentially their own fault.
