David (Tiran) is a Jewish American who enlists in the Israeli Army and learns that Palestinians have feelings too. While on patrol in the West Bank, he shoots a kid, and ends up in a mental hospital full of Holocaust survivors in Deir Yassin, the site of a real-life Palestinian massacre. Magical realism ensues: David’s doctor (Makram Khoury) gives him a memory-erasing drug, which raises some Big Ethical Questions. While there are a few nifty dance sequences, the convoluted flashbacks and flash-forwards are distracting, and the narrative twists were old long before the first intifada.
