From Other Worlds

In this innocuous sci-fi spoof, disenchanted Brooklyn housewife Joanne Schwartzbaum (Buono) has a close encounter with a West African immigrant (De Bankol) at a meeting for UFO enthusiasts, where they find they’ve been branded with identical alien marks. The discovery leads to a far-fetched plot involving an ancient Egyptian scroll, a chatty visitor from outer space, a burgeoning friendship and an increasingly irritated spouse (Lansbury). While the attendant high jinks prove to be an effective antidote to Joanne’s ennui, it’s doubtful that the audience will be similarly captivated. (Opens Fri; Cinema Village.) — Erin Clements
