Hanna/Barbera's futuristic follow-up to The Flintstones was launched on TV in 1962 and cancelled after a single season. Syndication has kept it alive for three decades, long enough for Hanna/Barbera to believe that there would be a market for a comeback in the shape of an animated feature film. Big mistake. Top-notch computer graphics, star voices and a gaggle of gadgets cannot disguise the fact that this family of the future is stuck firmly in 1962. Dad struggles for promotion while Mom remains sickeningly supportive, Sis digs shopping and dreamy rock stars, Sonny plays basketball with his robot friend, and the future is a technological Utopia where every man's need is catered for at the push of a button - Dad's job being 'digital index operator' at Spacely Space Sprockets. Not such a bad idea, but who needs it?
