Time Out says

2 out of 5 stars

Luisito (Perez) is the only vegetarian butcher working in the Dominican Republic—which may, alas, be the only original aspect of this well-intentioned, well-worn revenge saga. To avenge his father’s brutal murder, he moonlights as an undercover killer for his country’s secret police; his cool veneer gets shaken up, however, when a childhood sweetheart (Quiones) rolls back into town from NYC. Wolf-eyed Perez (Nothing Like the Holidays) once again proves that he’s a compelling performer, but the movie itself—shot like a noisy, bloody Obsession commercial— rings painfully familiar.—Lisa Rosman
