Les Bronzés

This is a little seaside memento from the early part of Leconte's career, when he was associated with the café theatre group 'Splendid'. It's an ensemble piece comprising a series of sketches and anecdotes set in a holiday camp on the Ivory Coast, a sort of African Butlins minus the rides. Basically it's Monsieur Hulot with a sex life, and though Tati would probably have disapproved of the ribaldry, the attitudes are not dissimilar. It certainly bubbles along amusingly enough, and on home ground it did well enough to prompt a sequel, Les Bronzés font du ski.
