The original Major League brought high jinks and low comedy to the baseball movie genre, and showcased the immense talents of Wesley Snipes. This sequel didn't cut it in the States, and it's hard to see why British audiences should show it any more respect, given that it's formula and lacks Snipes. True, most of the regulars return to the plate: Sheen as delinquent pitcher Rick 'Wild Thing' Vaughn; Berenger as Jake Taylor, the ageing catcher with dodgy knees; and the rest of the Cleveland Indians. RJ Stewart's screenplay highlights one of the great-in jokes of American team sports - how players are transformed during the close season by fame, fortune or adversity; here, the team is split asunder when Vaughn attempts to clean up his image and when Pedro Cerrano (Haysbert) switches bafflingly from voodoo to Buddhism.
