The 'honeymoon period' ends the night he asks her to give him a blow-job in the car. She realises that she's been getting less than him from the sex, and the marriage starts going downhill. Her professional progress (she graduates from dubbing foreign movies - Kim Novak in Vertigo - to working in radio plays) boosts her self-assurance. In Korea, though, a wife who puts herself at the same level as her husband is effectively ending the marriage. A key film for Korea's 'new cinema' (a huge domestic hit, it inspired a flood of imitations), this is an unerringly accurate account of feminist stirrings in a very patriarchal society. It's also really funny.
