Possessing a reformer's zeal and an adman's media savvy, tireless
conservationist David Brower became the executive director of the Sierra Club in
1952. He grew the small club for outdoorsmen into a national political
powerhouse that helped save natural treasures (including the Grand Canyon) and
established preserves (such as Redwoods National Park) that would have otherwise
been despoiled by developers. But while Brower had a keen understanding of how
to use the media to advance his agenda, director Kelly Duane sadly lacks vision,
producing a flat, artless hagiography that likely will only inspire yawns.
