Time Out says

Don't look too closely at the plot of this slice of Edwardian Gothic about a chorus girl (Cummins, not yet immortalised by Gun Crazy) who worms her way into an olde English household by blackmailing an invitation out of the young master (Mature, no less) who supposedly murdered her friend. Soon, silly girl, she is next in line to be done away with. Motivation is nobody's strong point, and poor Price's police inspector has to play singularly dumb (sitting on the fact that two murders are linked by a Bible and a pressed rose) to keep the pot boiling. Enjoyable, though, and beautifully shot by Joe MacDonald, with Ethel Barrymore rather splendidly doing her thing as a possessive matriarch.
