Michael Nyman delves into his vast personal archive of film footage collected over years of touring his chugging, melodic compositions across the globe and formulates a snappy, witty collage from them to complement a new score he wrote for Dziga Vertov’s seminal experimental documentary ‘Man with a Movie Camera’. Coming across a little like a more intimate and politically sensitive version of Godfrey Reggio’s ‘Koyaanisquatsi’, this piece shows that Nyman is just as adept at exploring rhythm and texture with images as he is with sound.
