A moving and intelligent documentary about the legacy of dictatorship, the endurance of grief and the challenges of memory. Following the difficult lives of three Chileans who grew up during and after the coup that toppled Marxist president Salvador Allende in 1973, the film looks back calmly and with authority as they relate their experiences (two lost fathers to the dictatorship's terror and all became significant student activists), revisit key locations and consider the fate of relatives and friends. Taking in General Augusto Pinochet's arrest and the proceedings in the UK and at home in 1998, it volunteers some kind of redemptive line, but who could have foreseen the cost?
