Time Out says
Every bit as unshakable as An Inconvenient Truth, Werner Boote's documentary isolates the mysteries (and possible dangers) of that ubiquitous titular substance. Traversing factories, research labs and wastelands, Boote's sleuthing frames a system of obfuscation: Manufacturers consider the elements in this material proprietary secrets, even as plastic-related chemicals taint foods and destroy the environment over decades of decomposition. "Our life cycle is now a plastic cycle," the filmmaker-narrator marvels, shortly before reeling in a sludge of industrial-waste chips that fish mistakenly eat. How do we remove this from the food chain? No one seems to know.
