Rem Koolhaas: A Kind of Architect

4 out of 5 stars

Time Out says

Rem Koolhaas defies professional labels: He is indeed an architect, but much of his work involves urban planning, systems theory and other fields that hover somewhere above the practical details. In this flashy but entertaining doc, Heidingsfelder and Tesch embrace the language of high architectural theory and post-structuralism, and employ cutout animation, talking-head interviews, found footage and computer animation, which keeps things fun if a bit thin on the nuts and bolts. Koolhaas’s “architecture without architecture,” for instance, remains vaguely defined. But then, Koolhaas wants it that way; it gives him room to maneuver.
