Meatloaf plays a Texas lunk called Travis W Redfish whose ability to fix electronics with manure and bits of potatoes gets him caught up in a highly sanitised, if surreal, version of the rock business. Hank Williams Jr, Roy Orbison, Alice Cooper and Blondie all show up, but the film's best quality is its combination of trash-culture gags and redneck humour: 'I just love these National Geographic Specials' cries Redfish as he watches The Giant Spider Invasion on TV. The good ole boy gags are keen enough to make Roadie a late night staple, but you can see why UA had cold feet about a wider audience for the film.
