A fictionalised biopic of Fanny Brice, later celebrated in Funny Girl but unacknowledged here, which led to a law suit (settled out of court). Faye sings (nicely and nostalgically), Power is the nogoodnik she loves, and Jolson the 'Mammy'-singing buddy who advises her to pour her heart into a rendition of 'My Man', thus making Power see the error of his ways. Stock stuff but enjoyably done, with excellent camerawork from Karl Freund, and notable chiefly for the number of Jolson standards crammed in for him to sing.
