Just in time to ruin everyone's holiday season comes Shwaas, a mawkish
melodrama about a cute Indian boy (Chitale) who is told he has to have both eyes
removed because of a rare form of retinal cancer. Tears are strenuously jerked
as the luckless lad's grandfather (Nalawade) attempts to prepare the little one
for a sightless future. The material is beyond maudlin, though child actor
Chitale is impressively resolute in the pivotal role. His strong will is likely
to be tested, however, by the rumored sequel, in which the filmmakers plan to
slice off his ears.
