Etaix's last worthwhile feature in a relatively short career shows him emulating his master Jacques Tati (Etaix was assistant on the execrable Mon Oncle) as a young man at odds with his modern urban environment, especially building sites. There's nothing here you haven't seen in Buster Keaton or in Chaplin's Modern Times. Watching Etaix and Tati in action suggests that the French must be profoundly worried by the apparatus or trappings of the modern world if they find this sort of caper funny.
