Time Out says

If Star Wars is basically a movie for people who like to play amusement arcades, then The Deep (adapted by Peter Benchley from his own novel) is the ultimate disco experience. It unerringly evokes all those misspent hours: it has sex objects for all tastes, instant fun, danger and boredom in unequal proportions, strobe-light climaxes, and Donna Summer in stereo. Furthermore, it does away with a storyline and dances on the spot for two hours, taking voodoo, buried treasure, violence and sea monsters in its stride. The Bermuda locations conjure up adverts for rum, but nothing much else has anything to do with the cinema.
