Found-footage interviews and fake archival clips establish a macabre atmosphere around this get-behind-thee-Satan story of a young American woman (Andrade) and her efforts to uncover the truth behind her mother's deportation to Italy. But once our heroine relocates to Rome, director William Brent Bell's this-really-happened assertions only magnify the story's mondo implausibilities. The best: a suggestion that any person can walk in off the street---with a camera crew!---and audit a class at "The Vatican School for Exorcists." Whatever possessed Bell & Co. to turn a slow-burning creepfest into a frenzied freak show of multiple exorcisms (including one in a moving car), the devil only knows.
