Exclusionary velvet-rope culture can’t be satirized enough, but woe be to secondhand Sacha Baron Cohens who don’t seem clear on the concept of mockumentary. This comedy’s vaguely Latin-accented gatekeeper, Trevor (Akoskin), certainly nails the vapidity of the nightclub scene, and a few of his misunderstandings have real cringe-inducing bite: Lunching with a real-life Peter Bogdanovich who doesn’t eat “dairy,” Trevor takes the opportunity to lecture the poor waiter that guests of their caliber don’t eat “dirty.” But it’s unclear whether we’re supposed to revel in Trevor’s air-kissing exploits or feel bad about his unraveling persona once he gets fired.
