Time Out says

Dot (Belle), a deaf-mute teenager whose father has been killed in an accident, is taken in by Paul (Donovan) and Olivia (Falco), old friends of her long-dead mother. Their cheerleader daughter, Nina (Cuthbert), resents the presence of this sullen, unpopular girl in their home, but the two are unwillingly drawn together by the secret of Nina’s sexual abuse. But does Dot harbor a secret of her own? An After School Special spiked with Carrie-ish atmospherics and a little dark Mean Girls humor, The Quiet never finds a consistent tone to relate its disturbing story.
