The Runaway Mummy

This enjoyable and enthusiastic romp of a comedy thriller is sure to delight Turks everywhere, but is not without wider appeal. All the elements are in place: the far-fetched plot involving secret agents, missing mummified Pharaohs and aphrodisiac-hunting gangsters; flamboyant locales in Turkey and Egypt; OTT characters and sand buggies aplenty. All good fun, while coded into the colourful background are significant pointers to Turkey's continuing debate about modernity and the maintenance of tradition.
