A ludicrously stagebound record by Frank Dunlop of his own 'Pop Theatre' production of Shakespeare's play for the Edinburgh Festival in 1966. Shot on the original stage set, with lumbering cameras and inadequate lighting, it's a fair old shambles in which the colour varies from shot to shot and the use of close-ups is almost invariably disruptive. With no attempt made to scale the acting from stage to screen, the performances - obviously no great shakes to start with - are something posterity is unlikely to be grateful to find preserved for its benefit.
